Our literary club comprises of inter House Competitions for Elocution, Declamation and Debate, that fills the hearts of the students with new fervor and competitive spirit. Oration is an art whereby the orator comes home to our heart with his powerful rhetoric, courage and confidence. They inspire the listeners and set the stage ablaze with their correct punctuation, vocabulary and power of expression. Whether it be Winston Churchill or Franklin Roosevelt, Swami Vivekananda or Maya Angelou each one of them stand out with their characteristic poise and equanimity, profundity of thought and clarity of expression.
The Elocution, Declamation & Debate Competitions took place on a new platform this year – the internet. It was a challenge to organize and conduct a programme that required the audience to relish and cheer.
Usually the school hall would be alive with strong cheers and chants, each rooting for their Houses. It is suffice to say, that the events in all the four languages – English, Hindi, Kannada and French was a thumping success. Each of the participants made their debut promptly and with decorum. We began with the Online Elocution Competition of classes VI and VII, which was a well organized event, wherein some of the girls impressed the audience with their apt intonation and pronunciation. Next in line, we had the Declamation Competition of grade VII and VIII, which had such a realistic touch, that it transported us almost immediately into the world of perfect orators. The seniors of grade IX and X, participated in the Debate Competition and spoke with conviction as if they were to be our future parliamentarians.
The judges were stupendously impressed with the M.C’s, the Captain’s cheering and the perfect diction of the participants. Each of the language departments conducted their set of programmes on different days, on Google Meet. It was a day that will be etched in our memory forever.
