The concept of gender sensitivity and gender equality have been developed as a way to remove barriers to personal, social and cultural progress in the society ,thereby paving the way to equality. The fifth Sustainable Development Goal aims to promote Gender Equality. In an attempt to proactively promote this concept, the Sacred Heart Girls’ High School selected the International Day of the Girl Child to empower the girls and their families studying in the school.
On the 11th of October we launched the International Day for the Girl Child. The theme for this year was ‘My Voice Equals Our Future’. This was a month-long celebration involving all our girls of Sacred Heart Girl’s High School as well as the staff. This was a joint initiative started by Good Shepherd International Justice Peace Office (GSIJOP) and Asia Pacific Mission Development Office (AP MDO) with the intention of bringing a voice to the Good Shepherd Program Participants, especially women and children.
There were a variety of events and competitions that were organized. One of our girl’s won the logo competition and her logo was used on all the print media for the event on a global level. There was also a special day dedicated to all the fathers and brothers to bring about awareness of the importance of a girl in their lives.
A social media page was created on Instagram and Facebook to put up the creations of our girls. From the 1st of October 2020 to the 9th of October 2020 a program was aired on our Official YouTube Channel that showcased all the work of our girls and had special guest speakers by women achievers to give an inspirational message to our students.
